The Foundation for Australia-Japan Studies fosters innovative bilateral collaborations between Australia and Japan.
The Foundation for Australia-Japan Studies (FAJS) was an initiative of the the Australia-Japan Foundation (Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade). Rio Tinto became the inaugural industry partner in 2014, when it committed financial support for the promotion of academic and research links between Australian and Japanese universities, industry and government.
“The Foundation for Australia-Japan Studies strengthens and transforms Australia-Japan research and scientific collaboration through academic, industry and government partnerships”
— Murray McLean, Chair
FAJS is an independent, not-for-profit organisation established in Australia that facilitates private-sector funding to support collaborations between academic institutions, industry and government in Australia and Japan.
Our mission is to elevate the profile of Australia-Japan collaboration in science, technology and innovation and support the people who are transforming the bilateral relationship through these partnerships.
