Our Beginning
The Australia Japan Innovation Fund (AJIF) began life as the Foundation for Australia-Japan Studies (FAJS), an initiative of the Australia-Japan Foundation (Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade). Rio Tinto became the inaugural industry partner in 2014, when it committed financial support for the promotion of academic and research links between Australian and Japanese universities, industry and government.
In 2024 Rio Tinto renewed its commitment and we re-branded as the Australia-Japan Innovation Fund (AJIF).
